The market town of Berchtesgaden offers many attractions: the historical pedestrian precinct is often very lively and many shops, ice cream sellers, restaurants and the Stiftskirche church can be found here.
Other attractions surely worth a visit include the Berchtesgaden salt mine, the historically famous Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) with its great panoramic view and the new information centre on Hitler's Obersalzberg. There is also a completely new adventure pool and wellness centre.
The famous King's Lake (Königsee) near the community of Schönau invites visitors to cross its clear waters with an electrically powered passenger boat to reach in its centre the half-island, on which stands the imrpessive church of St. Bartholomä.
The boat trip is certainly made memorable by the magnificent trumpet airs played by one of the boat officials which echo hauntingly across the lake, ricocheting against the eastern wall of the high mountain of Watzmann.
